Emma Chamberlain
Forever my celebrity obsession
Do you have a celebrity you have watched grow from the beginning of their career, support them from afar, and appreciate their successes? I discovered Emma Chamberlain soon after her YouTube channel started gaining attention in 2017. Her unique humor and video editing made her charming and I couldn’t stop watching. Her videos became my ‘comfort show’. It’s easy to see her personality through the videos and she is entertainingly relatable and you can tell that she is being her true authentic self. She used to do videos of drive-thru taste tests, thrifting, and more. Her signature look was a crop top and jeans with her ‘poopy’ jacket and a scrunchie in her hair, typically in a ponytail. That ‘poopy’ jacket became one of the most popular pieces around 2018-2021. I guarantee you know exactly the brown fleece jacket I’m talking about. Emma is a self-made woman who had no idea how much she would grow in her career after launching her YouTube channel, which currently has 12 million subscribers. She has a big personality and an even bigger imagination/mind.
In the most recent years of her career, she has had some partnerships with notable brands including Cartier, Levis, Lancome, Adidas, and Louis Vuitton. I still remember how proud and impressed I felt when I saw her high fashion debut at Louis Vuitton’s show at Paris Fashion Week in 2019. It’s kind of a full circle moment because she started her channel intending her videos to be about fashion. In July 2017, she uploaded a video making her own Gucci shirt and now she’s being invited to their shows. She has also been on the front page of several well-known magazines including Rolling Stones, Cosmopolitan, Vogue Australia, Allure, Harper's Bazaar, and more. There were also features about Emma in magazines such as Forbes and Vogue. She has also interviewed guests at the Met Gala for Vogue’s YouTube channel every year since 2021. In 2022, she and Jack Harlow were a meme for a while because of a clip from one of those interviews.
Like I said before, she is a businesswoman. She has built her brand, Chamberlain Coffee, since 2020. The graphics on the products make it more intriguing and fun! There is a variety of different kinds of coffees and the names fit the roast or flavor well. When I began writing this piece, I happened to be in Whole Foods when I spotted two of her coffees in cans. I got to taste the vanilla and mocha lattes and to be quite honest, they weren’t my favorite. Since the milk is plant-based (almond and coconut), shake it very well before opening or it will be a little chunky. Both didn’t taste very much like the flavors they’re supposed to be, but I also think I hold high expectations for canned coffees. She also has her podcast, Anything Goes, which I will admit I don’t listen to, but I like the merch for it. Her limited clothing line High Key was her style at the time but didn’t last very long. Either way, you can tell how motivated she is in her professional life.
On to her personal life … Something she has gotten really good at is keeping what she wants private, private. She has always kept her dating life private, though it hasn’t been super tough to figure things out. Her relationship with the singer, Role Model, ended recently after being together for over three years. Though their relationship was kept very private, they gave their fans a little something, sometimes including their interview together for GQ which was uploaded on YouTube on Valentine’s Day in 2023. There has been a lot of speculation on her relationships, but Role Model is the only one who has been confirmed. There were some assumptions about her dating life based on evidence. People believed that she was in a relationship with Ethan Dolan for a bit as well as Aaron Hull, who gained popularity on TikTok in 2019. Her relationship with Dolan was never confirmed, but Hull verified that they were together for a few months. I think she likes to keep her personal life private because she has had relationships in the past, where other people were using her to gain popularity on their channels or profiles. Emma had admitted to feeling used by peers, which shouldn't be the case. She is a wonderful person who has a big personality and it’s disappointing that people would take advantage of that for personal gain.
I would say that she was the center of a few friend groups, but to me, there are two main ones. The ‘Sister Squad’ and the ‘Girdies’. The ‘Sister Squad’ definitely gained the most amount of popularity due to the group consisting of Emma, the Dolan twins, and James Charles. They were all at the peak of their Youtube careers when this group came together which led fans to theorize that the squad formation was a marketing move. I wouldn't be surprised if that’s true, but their chemistry was undeniable. I think they were genuine friends and spent as much time together as they admitted but I think there was some professional motivation to get together as well. They made a bunch of videos together between all of their channels that I still watch for comfort to this day. Now the ‘girdies’. This group was Emma, Hannah Meloche, and Ellie Thuman. Hannah and Ellie were best friends before Emma came into the picture, but they met through the trips that Dote used to put together (a story for another time). These three were an unstoppable trio. They were pretty, funny, quirky, and everything every girl wanted to be at the time. They were close with photographer Bryant and had many photoshoots all together. I believe they fell out because they grew out of each other. Emma was more based around comedy and silly little vlogs, whereas Hannah and Ellie were/are more focused on more ‘aesthetic’ vlogs. I can’t imagine how let down Emma has felt by people who she can tell are using her for personal gain. But I think she has a good head on her shoulders and can recognize an honest friend.
I love Emma Chamberlain. I think she is an amazing person who deserves the world. She has always been open about her mental health, whether it’s depression or anxiety, and I appreciate her transparency. Being watched by the public eye is a difficulty I could never imagine myself facing. She handles it with grace and knows how to handle herself. I can’t wait to see what she does in the future and I’m confident it will be great!

Children
Spoiled, Sensitive, and Selfish. These are some words that are used to describe stereotypical only children. Being an only child, I do everything in my power to not fit that stereotype. But, it is a big part of who I am. Having studied sociology and now being a young adult, I have realized over time how much being an only child affected me socially and personally. I want to take you through some stereotypes and tell you about my experience as an only child.
Of course I’ve been curious about what my life would be like if I had siblings, but I’m thankful I was an only child. I believe there are several benefits to being an only child including being comfortable and confident talking to adults at a young age, being comfortable being alone / not getting lonely easily, building a closer relationship with my parents, etc. There are a lot of ways these qualities have helped me throughout my life and I am thankful for that.
In my last post, I wrote about the importance of alone time. Being an only child made me used to being alone. I didn’t have someone my age to grow up with like most people. That person or people you experience personal occasions with, big and small, throughout your whole life. Of course I had my parents to spend time with, but having a sibling means you have someone to hang out with at home at any time that’s generally around your age. I also understood how my lack of a sibling altered different parts of my life. I was lucky that my parents socialized me as much as they did growing up because I know that isn’t the case for a lot of only children. I have vivid memories of my childhood about being quite involved in our sports clubs and sports in general where I met many people, going to or having parties, and spending a lot of time with our neighbors who were a few years older than me growing up. But I also remember the times when I would play by myself in my playroom and sit with my parents in their offices doing homework while they were working, which led to me feeling more pressure as an individual than most people with siblings feel because that pressure is distributed in some way. Being comfortable alone has its ups and downs, but it’s nice not to get lonely easily. I’m very comfortable being on my own and I appreciate that.
This all isn’t to say that I don’t like being an only child. I am thankful for the life my parents gave me and the relationship that we have. Not to be conceited, but I love the person I have grown up to be. I think being an only child has made me tremendously independent, which can be a good and bad thing. I don’t like relying on people too heavily whether it’s physically (ex. carrying anything no matter how big), personally (ex. solving problems on my own), and more. I am not afraid to do what I want. I think in the strangest way, not having someone teasing me or ‘tearing me down’ the way a sibling does made me feel like I was unstoppable. I don’t know if that’s correct in any way, but I like to think it has some correlation.
I am thankful for the life I have. I love the person I have become. I credit that partially to being an only child because it has helped define who I am today and who I will further grow up to be. I am thankful for everything my parents have done for me throughout my whole life. But like I said before, I’ve always been curious about what my life would be like if I had had a sibling.
Real life Polly Pocket
Sabrina Carpenter
Up-and-coming pop princess, Sabrina Carpenter, is getting the recognition she has earned after working so hard. Sabrina’s career really kicked off when she played one of the main characters in Disney’s Girl Meets World. Her big break landed her a 10-year contract with Disney. She released several albums beginning in 2014, but her newest album emails i can’t send included her most popular hits ‘Feather’ and ‘Nonsense’. She performed at the most recent New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest and opened for a part of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. I’ll admit, I don’t listen to her music as much as I used to, I admire her as a person. I have been a fan of hers for a while, but now, I’m obsesssed.
Like I said before, she opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne, Sydney, and Singapore, 3-4 nights each. She wore the cutest outfits with her signature platform white go-go boots which made her look like a real-life Polly Pocket doll. She wears similar outfits on her tour, but obviously, the Eras tour was a completely different scale and helped her gain a lot of attention. Her adorable dance during live performances of an iconic part of her song ‘Feather’ was trending on social media and further blew up the song itself. She also had an iconic set at Coachella Weekend 1 this weekend. The set was a cute motel and she just fit the vibe so well. She killed it. Her new beau Barry Keoghan was there to support her and was fangirling the whole time.
Though she has had a successful career, she was torn down through a petty girl drama that was made public. I didn’t give any kind of details on it in my piece about Olivia Rodrigo, but I will now. In Olivia’s album GUTS, she writes lyrics in a few songs about the same blond girl that she partially blamed for ending her relationship because her ex got with her right after it ended. It wasn’t difficult to put the pieces together and realize Sabrina was the girl and her ex was Joshua Basset. The whole world seemed to blame Sabrina for Rodrigo and Basset’s relationship ending. This led to Sabrina receiving an outrageous amount of hate and (death) threats. She responded with her song because i liked a boy, which gave her side of the story which was ultimately that she didn’t try to take him away from her, she just liked a boy, who was single when she started developing feelings for him. It’s a moving song, especially knowing the background. After a period full of negativity towards her, she took off.
Her lyrics are bold, her love life is intriguing, and her natural beauty makes her glow even more when she is performing. Sabrina Carpenter is only getting started and I know she’s going to be an unforgettable icon in pop culture.

Squid Ink Campanelle with Cherry Tomatoes and Garlic
Recently, I was in the Stella’s Grocery in Scott’s Addition (RVA) and a friend and I both grabbed the squid ink campanelle made by Scratch Pasta Co.! The following week, I spent my lunch break at the 2024 VA Food & Beverage Expo in Richmond and was lucky enough to meet Retail Manager and Director of Operations of Scratch. Having the intention of making this pasta for dinner, I looked up sauces that go well with squid ink pasta and ended up making a simple sauce that takes less than 15 minutes to make! I’m so happy with how it turned out, but there are definitely ways to elevate this dish whether it’s vegetables, protein, cheese (my fav, stracciatella), or whatever you’d like!
Check out the other yummy pasta’s from Scratch!
1 cup and 1/2 of Scratch’s Squid Ink Campanelle
1/3 cup of olive oil + drizzle when plated
2-4 cloves of garlic, minced
large handful / 10-14 grape tomatoes, halved
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
salt / black pepper
cheese for topping (pecorino romano, burrata, stracciatella)
Heat up the olive oil in a pan while you begin to boil water. Throw your garlic into the olive oil and when it begins to brown, toss in the tomatoes and cover. I like to add my pasta to the water after the tomatoes have cooked down a bit because it cooks quickly (4ish minutes). Remember to save about a cup of pasta water for your sauce before you drain the pasta. Add some of that water to your tomatoes to thicken the base. Throw in the lemon juice and s/p to taste. After the sauce has cooked down and thickened, add the pasta and mix well to make sure it’s all coated. After you serve yourself, top it with the cheese of your choice and drizzle olive oil on top, then enjoy!
4 Days in Seattle ~ 4 Days in Seattle ~
4 Days in Seattle ~ 4 Days in Seattle ~
Day 1
I think this is a good, chill first day! A full day of fun stuff but nothing too crazy.
9:30 - 10:30 : Starbucks Reserve Roastery - a good early brunch and get to explore the roastery a bit. Good preparation for a of couple hours at a museum.
11-1:30 : Museum of Pop Culture - A ton of cool exhibits including ‘Indie Game Revolution’, ‘Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses’, ‘Fantasy: Worlds of Myths and Magic’, and more! Seems like a really cool experience.
2- whatever time : Pike Place Market - explore the market for a few hours. Based on the website it looks like there’s a lot to explore! I’m sure it can occupy a lot of time. Since there’s tons of great food there I think I’d wanna hang out there until I’m full/tired.
Day 2
Always have to go shopping in a new city! Knowing myself I can wander into a few stores, but I have good self-control and enjoy looking at new items. Shopping sandwiched between good food sounds the perfect day to me!
9:00-10:30 : Petit Pierre bakery - I’m the kind of person that likes to look at the menu before I go to restaurants. If I go here I would like to try The Italian, BLTA, and their bahn mi as well as their butter croissant and cruffin!
11-5: Seattle University Village - of course, I have to get some shopping in! I prefer to go shopping early on trips because then I’m able to wear or use some of the new things I have bought. I think I’d be able to spend a good amount of time (several hours) here.
6:30-8 : Niku Niku - an all you can eat Japanese BBQ! You can’t go wrong! It may not be the biggest menu, but no limit to fresh meat cooked right in front of you! Ideal situation to be in.
Day 3
A fun experience in the morning that’s pretty calm followed by a relaxing day.
9-10:30 : Pegasus Coffee - I would love a morning stroll on the Waterfront Trail after picking up some coffee or hot chocolate here!
11- 1 : Lulumiere - just a fun little class where you get to make two candles! It’s a cute idea and I think it would be a good time! Making the candles takes 45 minutes and then you just need to let them set and I think it would be nice to hang around.
1:30-2:30 : Kerry Park - another nice little stroll and good views!
3-5:30 - Nap Time : knowing myself, after a few days exploring a new city, I know I’m gonna be a little worn out. This feels like a good amount of hanging out where I’m staying and recharging before dinner.
6:30 - Swish Swish - all-you-can-eat hot pot! I had the Japanese version of hot pot, shabu-shabu when I was in Tokyo last year. I would love to have that same kind of experience again. They have a big menu that has an amazing selection! Would love to try it!
Day 4
I’m going to let myself have a chill morning by sleeping in, grabbing breakfast nearby, and hanging out where I’m staying until lunch.
12:00-1:30 - U:don - a yummy lunch with fresh udon noodles. One of my favorite noodles, if not my favorite, is udon. The thick, chewy noodles are so good to me and have a texture I enjoy.
2- 4 : Wing Luke Museum - a unique experience about different cultures
4:30- 6 : Chihuly Garden and Glass - I think this would be a fun, somewhat quick exhibit trip. There are beautiful glass sculptures all around and I believe this would be a very memorable experience.
For the rest of the night : hang out at Pike Place Market! Since I would go here my first night and this market is a Seattle staple, I want to finish off the trip here! With so much to do, I’m sure I can occupy my time there again.
I thought it would be fun to make up a little schedule for a trip somewhere and landed on Seattle! My dad has lived there several times and became a big fan of the Seahawks! I have been there at an age where I would remember the trip, so I have wanted to visit for a while. I didn’t realize how much Asian food there is until I did some research on this! I bet it’s amazing there with such great seafood and good meats. Here’s a general schedule I would go by if I were to have four full days in Seattle!

Nine Perfect Strangers
A different kind of spa
To set the scene, imagine Melissa McCarthy in a new BMW driving on a back road, receiving a call that sends her over the edge. She pulls her car over to the side of the road, gets out, and starts screaming ‘Dead to the f*cking world!’ Bobby Cannavale’s character, Tony, pulls up and asks if she’s ok, and thus begins their bitter relationship.
Tranqiulum is a resort that is supposed to bring calmness and heal their ‘patients’. Do they have any type of medical license? Of course not. Soon into the show, you learn that everyone there was selected out of thousands of applicants because they were ‘the most damaged’ which makes you curious as to why they are all there. Some of them are very open about their problems, but others are more private, but you eventually discover their trauma whether it’s in their one-on-one session with Masha or in their group activities.
Here are the nine guests and their main caretaker:
Masha, played by Nicole Kidman, is a wellness guru whose life was working in the corporate world until she was shot. She was legally dead then when she came back to life, she wanted to transform her life into something more peaceful. Thus Tranquilum was born. She glows when she walks into the room and has an enchanting feeling to her.
Francis, performed by Melissa McCarthy, is a struggling writer who needs a break from reality. She was vulnerable to someone in her past that hurt her in the end and she is working on processing what happened.
Carmel, executed by Regina Hall, seems like a delicate woman who is a mother of four and had issues with her husband. She says she is there for ‘esteem building, weight loss, and mind and body transformation’. There is also a twist in her and Masha’s relationship during their one-on-one session. Throughout the show, you see more and more of her true colors, which can be quite frightening.
Marconi family
Napoleon is a father who tries to keep things as lighthearted as possible. Wants what’s best for his family.
Heather is the mother and is just a little off. You can tell her mind is somewhere else. To be honest, I don't know how to describe her other than a little bitter.
Zoe, the daughter, is sweet and celebrates her 21st birthday while at Tranquilum. She wants her family to be themselves again but is also feeling the same pain they do.
Tony is kind of a tough guy who has a difficult past. He relieves his physical and mental pain in a way that Masha makes sure she can control when he is at Tranquilum. Some of the others recognize him but can’t place him at first. Eventually, they do and it opens a can of worms which is his past.
Jessica and Ben are a young couple who are having marital problems. It’s easy to tell their spark is gone and she is the one wanting to put in the effort to save their marriage. It’s interesting to see how their relationship further develops throughout the show.
Lars is a guy who you can’t figure out at first. He’s a little shady and has a bit of an attitude with everyone, but a unique soft spot for Zoe, not in a creepy way. He wants to figure out what Tranquilum is really about because there has to be something going on beyond the surface.
Mind, body, and soul. That’s what the characters focus on at Tranquilum. Their minds open up individually and together which brings them together. They trust their bodies with Masha’s staff because they are provided with all the food. They always start their mornings with a smoothie and later on, you discover what is up with all the smoothies and why the guests are so infatuated with them. They can release what they need from their soul during the group exercises. They are vulnerable during these intense activities and grow closer together from strangers to close friends with unique relationships. Later in the show, you learn Masha’s intentions and everything begins to add up and fall into place in a way that you don’t want to miss. I would recommend this show if you love shows like White Lotus!
Nuuly
If you love clothes and wish you had an unlimited closet, let me introduce you to Nuuly. This subscription lets you rent 6 pieces of clothes for, generally, a month at a set price no matter how expensive the pieces you order are. Most of the pieces I got were more expensive than the subscription itself. This was my first package from Nuuly and I wanted to tell you about the pieces I got. Since they are worn by other people, I have been questioned about the quality of the pieces so I want to give an honest review for each.
This chunky knit cardigan from Anthropologie is super comfy and warm! I got a ton of compliments and the colors are so fun. It’s an easy topper that can spice up a basic outfit. My only complaint is that it had a lot of pills on it, but that wasn't necessarily surprising.
This button-up sweater is tight-knit and thick with the coolest design on the front and a sweet car on the back. I tried them on with my new shorts from Free People and I think they are a cute, casual pair. This would be cute to work with wide-leg jeans and yoga pants or to a concert with longer shorts, like in the picture. I really like this sweater and honestly, it felt pretty new, not worn out at all!
These pants are the best! They are thick, cozy and so cute! I got so many compliments on these pants and they happened to go well with some new shoes I had gotten around the time I got my package. It’s kind of hard to find a top that goes with this because of the color. I think it would look best with a brown top or a fun color like green or pink! No complaints about this piece!
I was so excited to get this top because I love the off-the-shoulder look and this is a very romantic top. It was unfortunate that the top straps didn’t fit my shoulders even at their tightest. I’m glad I still had the chance to wear it! I liked this top with my wide-leg jeans to go out to dinner or a casual night on the town!
I had always wanted to try this sexy corset top from Urban Outfitters. I’m glad I had the chance to try this top on and go out in it because I realized it wouldn’t have been worth my money. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a cute top, but between the wires and hook and eye closures down the back made me uncomfortable.
I love this soft, floral button-down. To be honest, I haven’t had the chance to wear this top yet, mainly because I keep forgetting about it. But, it is still super cute! I love the floral and strip details and it’s just perfect as spring is coming into blossom more and more every day! It came quite wrinkled and felt more worn out.
Thanks for making it to the end :)
