New Exhibition: Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion
Gala Theme: The Garden of Time
Outfits this year!
I have to say, I had very high expectations this year between the theme and the iconic celebrity list. I will admit I was disappointed for a couple reasons. This was a great theme that, I believe, gave guests the ability to be as creative and imaginative as they wanted by interpreting ‘Garden of Time’ in different ways. A lot of the pieces that were worn were beige and, I hate to say, boring. I’m going to give my honest opinions of some of these ensembles. Also, some of the regular guests who always have the most memorable outfits. We were missing Blake Lively, Rihanna, Anya Taylor Joy, Anne Hathaway, and more! There will still memorable pieces, but lacked a certain something this year.
*In alphabetical order*

Alexandra Daddario in Dior - Something about this hurts my head, most likely the 'lace'. There's a lot going on but also there's barely anything to it. I think it would have more potential if the texture wasn't so rough and the flowers were more visible.

Amanda Gorman in Prada - I think this gown is lovely. The neckline reminds me of Aurora's neckline in 'Sleeping Beauty'. Her hair goes beautifully with the look, I love the curl,

Amanda Seyfried in Prada - The lip color, the hair, the flowers, and I don't want to get started on the dress. No thank you.

Andrew Scott in Versace - Okkk, I like this a lot. While it is simple, I love the details. The necklace looks like a centipede and the beautiful insect clips on the shoulder pull the outfit together and elegantly fits the theme.

Anna Wintour in Loewe - Classic Anna Wintour look, a long gown with a statement. Her taste is quite simple to me.

Ariana Grande in Loewe - I haven't been the biggest fan of Ariana's looks recently, but this is stunning. She looks angelic with the makeup details and diamond drop earrings. The dress has two different parts to it but they work well together.

Ashley Graham in Swarovski - I love this gown. It took around 500 hours to create, and boy was it worth the time. Ashley looks incredible in this dress and killed it while she interviewed guests on the carpet.

Ayo Edebiri in Loewe - I hate to say it, but this looks like something from Kohls or Belk. I think when you look closer at the fabric, you are able to see the quality of the flowers, but from afar it looks a bit cheap.

Ayu Nakamura in Balmain - In love with this dress. I love the style of the gown and the details. The jewels and flowers work so well together and. fits her like a glove. I think the hair color was also a good pairing.

Bad Bunny in John Galliano - I like this. I can't tell what look he was really going for but I don't mind it. But, I love this style of stitching and the flower detail is quite cute.

Barry Keoghan in Burberry - Looks like he's about to court me in a fairytale then pranks me into working at his chocolate factory, not in a great way but not necessarily bad. I appreciate the effort but am not a huge fan of the execution.

Brie Larson - Prada - At first glance, I was not a huge fan. But the more I look at it, the more I appreciate it. The colors work well together and the sheerness of the top dress tones the jewels down a bit.

Bruna Marquezine in Tory Burch - This gown is breathtaking. The somewhat muted flowers are tasteful and the ruffle details make it stand out a little more.

Camilla Cabello in Ludovic de Saint Sernin - I think this dress had potential without the criss-cross front and rips on the bottom. The ice block 'purse' was a cool creative decision but I think I would hate that.

Cardi B in Windowsen - Such a dramatic dress is worn with a massive beehive hairdo that may be a little too dramatic. The dress took 7 people to carry up the stairs of the Met.

Demi Lovato in Prabal Gurung - After an 8 year hiatus from the Met Gala, Demi makes an outstanding comeback with a beautiful dress and train. A very classy look with lovely floral details.

Donald Glover in Saint Laurent - The earthy tones on this suit are gorgeous. Donald looks so comfortable and confident wearing a suit that stands out from the typical black tux.

Donatella Versace in Versace - Yeah, she killed it. I love the texture in the fabric and the drapery across the dress. The color is *chefs kiss*!!

Dove Cameron and Damian David in Diesel - One of my favorite new couples! They look so good together and their outfits fit their vibes well.

Dua Lipa in Marc Jacobs - Looking at the different pieces in this one look is hard to look at. There's so much going on, but I think if there was less it would be nicer.

Ed Sheeran in Stella McCartney - Steeping out in a baby blue suit with an untied bowtie. While he may be getting clowned online, I like his outfit. I think it looks classy and fits the theme well.

Elza González Rivera in Del Core - This dress is stunning. It reminds me of a dress that would come straight out of a Barbie animated movie. Elza looks incredible and this fits her beautifully.

Elizabeth Debicki in Dior - I will never like this color. It always ruins beautiful pieces like this. I think the gown and headpiece are great but the color just makes it fall apart in my book.

Elle Fanning in Balmain - ETHEREAL. Elle killed the competition in this dress. She looks incredible in her delicate glass-looking dress. The shoulder details are detailed and brings the whole piece together. They are supposed to mimic the birds helping Cinderella get dressed.

Elsa Pataky and Chris Hemsworth in Tom Ford - nothing special really. Not impressed with how he turned out considering he's one of the co-chairs. She looks nice though!

Emily Ratajkowski in Versace - I recently reread her book (look out for a review) and have been obsessed with Emily. Honestly, how could you not love this bold dress. The flower petal details really pull it together.

Emma Chamberlain in Jean Paul Gauliter - I mean, come onnnn. Killed it. I love this darker look on her which reminds me of a spooky forest. I'm addicted to the video of her, Sabrina Carpenter, and Kylie Jenner.

Emma Mackey in Chloé - A lot of people think this look was too simple for the event, but I think it's quite elegant. I think she chose a very natural, angelic look that is comfortable and chic.

Gigi Hadid in Thom Browne - no thanks. This looks like a wannabe authentic Italian bottle of olive oil or limoncello. I don't really like the details around the legs that looks like a men's suit jacket. This dress supposedly took over 13,500 hours to create which is insane.

Greta Gerwig in Chloé - quite simple but I like it. The beading is beautiful and the earrings are gorgeous. I always love an all black outfit.

Greta Lee in Loewe - this look is growing on me the more I look at it. Functionally, I would be annoyed. Love the lace and interesting structure.

Harris Reed in a dress made by herself - she looks amazing. This piece is incredible. It would fit beautifully in the 2018 theme 'Heavenly Bodies' but still looks fantastic in this one.

Huma Abedin in Erdem Moralioğlu - I love this dress. It's elegant, simple and classic. The color has been one of my favorites lately and the broaches are lovely details. I think the style of this dress is timeless.

Irina Shank in Swarovski - I think this gown can be worn to an extravagant event. It's obviously beautiful but it's nothing special to the event in my eyes.

Iris Law - SHE WON. THIS DRESS WON IT ALL. There is just no competition with this ensemble. The hair, the dress, the shoes. I can't get enough. 1000/10

Jamie Dornan in Loewe - his suit is incredibly detailed beadwork. Process that for a second because that's insane. The top pieces of the suit are made of beads including the tie. I salute him for bearing that the whole night. It couldn't have been easy, but it was worth it. He killed it.

Janelle Monáe in Vera Wang - it feels like there's a lot going on but also nothing at the same time. I don't really know what more to say than that.

Jeff Goldblum in Prada - SLAY (the only one if these that I will say that in, I promise). Absolutely killed it. He looks sleek as hell with just a cool vibe. Love the sunglasses and broaches.

Jennifer Lopez in Daniel Rosenberry - I hate to admit, I haven't been a JLo fan lately for a few different reasons... but I love this. I think they executed this dress and everything else beautifully.

Jessica Biel in Giambattista Valli - I hate to be rude, even though I already have been oops, but this dress hurts my eyes and I have mixed feelings about it. I think the petals and color is lovely but between the texture and vibrancy of the color, there is a lot going on. I appreciate the vision.

John Batiste in Dunhill - the pattern on the waistcoat is so cute. I like the subtle addition paired with the diamond detail. I am a fan.

Jonathan Bailey in Loewe - Yuuup, love this. I love his confidence in this suit, which really emphasizes how great the ensemble is.

Josh O'Connor in Loewe - ya know, I don't really mind the suit tails. Does it look a little bit goofy? Yes. But I kinda like it. But, with the floral clogs, not so much. I appreciate the bedazzling on them though.

Kaia Gerber - simple but nice. The pearl tone is nice and it looks like there are scales.

Karlie Kloss in Swarovski - Wow. The intricacy in this dress is so impressive. There are 240,500 crystals on this dress and I could only imagine how heavy that dress is. The design is just amazing. The details around the neck pull it together.

Keke Palmer in Marc Jacobs - between the dress and hair, it looks like a mummy costume. I think if the fabric wasn't so toned down and was a brighter color, it would have been a bit nicer.

Kendall Jenner in Givenchy - apparently she is the first person to wear this archival dress. It is quite beautiful and I can't believe the details throughout the whole thing. While I don't believe she is ever on theme, I love this two piece.

Kim Kardashian in Maison Margiela - She has been getting a lot of hate lately due to his dress and how she describes it, plus being booed at Tom Brady's roast couldn't be nice. I think she looked beautiful in this, but her waist was inhumanely small in this. The lace skirt is delicate and chained together nicely.

Kylie Jenner in Oscar De La Renta - the fit and style of this dress is lovely, but there should have been more to it. A nude monochrome outfit was bound to be bland at this event.

Lana Del Ray in Alexander McQueen - breathtaking, ethereal, angelic, stunning, and perfect.

Laufey in Prabal Gurung - This dress is enchanting. She looks like Aurora. The ruffles are a bit overwhelming, but not that bad.

Lil Nas X in Luar - This fit is chefs kiss from top to bottom. From the 50,000 Swarovski crystals on this piece to the button details to the nails. As José Criales-Unzueta says in his Vogue article, 'Lil Nas X is no stranger to making a fashion statement.'

Lily James in Erdem - It's a simple dress, but the structure of it makes it stand out. I like the 'outlines' of tulips strategically placed throughout the gown.

Lizzo in Victor Weinsanto - the hell is this? The shape of this dress is insane to me. Not just the headpiece, but the bottom of the dress flipping out looks so awkward to me.

Michael Shannon in Balenciaga - I generally get the idea of how this was supposed to look but I want to understand the designer's exact vision. A rugged suit, not tied well paired with a bag of stinky flavored potato chips supposedly produced by Balenciaga.

Michelle Yeoh in Balenciaga - I'm not going to beat around the bush, this dress is made of tin foil. At least that's what it looks like.

Mike Faist in Loewe - the coat and pants are nice pieces together, but the beaded radish brings it together.

Mindy Kaling in Gaurav Gupta - I'M OBSESSED. This look kind of gives me a Mother of Pearl vibe. The shimmering fabric throughout the piece is stunning and Mindy was the perfect person for this designer's debut. The construction of this dress is fascinating to me.

Mona Patel in Iris Van Herpen - breathtaking. This dress is incredible. The arm pieces look amazing plus the train pieces and neckline remind me of insect wings.

Naomi Campbell in Burberry - definitely a showstopper. I wouldn't say for this occasion necessarily but it's beautiful nonetheless. The sparkles and fringe give it an interesting body and the color compliments her skin tone so well.

Nicki Minaj in Marni - this dress makes me feel like we went back in time a little bit, like 2013. The bright colors and 3-D elements are definitely fitting her older style.

Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga - Nicole is one of the most beautiful and elegant women, but I don't like this dress on her. The black outline is awkward to me and a bit to basic to me.

Odell Beckham Jr. in Bode - I will always love embroidery, and on this suit, the details stand out. The design is beautiful and the lace lining and diamond broach are appealing additions.

Pamela Anderson in Oscar De la Renta - She is the moment. She broke her bare face on red carpets streak for the occasion but her natural beauty shines through with such an electric smile. I know I've been hating on basic pieces throughout this, but I have no complaints.

Phoebe Dynevor in Victoria Beckham and Charlotte Tilbury - this duo was quite unexpected but remind me of opposite besties. Phoebe with an ethereal look which was also Victoria's debut as a designer at the Met Gala. I love the gold outlines throughout Charlotte's dress against the black.

Rachel Zegler in Michael Kors - shut up. This dress with the cape is magnificent. She looks like a modern Cinderella.

Raye in Fendi - I appreciate the effort, don't love the outcome. The texture is just odd to me. That's all.

Rebecca Hall in Danielle Frankel - this gown was handprinted. All the little flowers on the fabric are detailed and made their way up her arm to the collarbone. This is an elegant look that will always be in style. 10/10

Reece Feldman in Thom Browne - I love the imagery on this outfit. It reminds me of some art I saw in the Osaka Castle and looks nice on the fabric texture. I don't mind the dog purse.

Sabrina Carpenter in Oscar de la Renta - Sabrina looks fabulous here. We are used to seeing here in micro mini skirts and dresses, but this gown fits her beautifully. The diamond necklace was a lovely accessory.

Sabrina Harrison in CHRISHABAN - she knew what she was doing... taking the theme a little too literally in the best way possible. This dress is beautiful. The intricacy of putting all the clocks on lined up perfectly is impressive

Sebastian Stan in AMI Paris and Cartier - Very sleek look that looks like a glamorized version of the signature Matrix look. The monochrome details that shine and diamond details elevate the look.

Serena Williams in Balenciaga - along the same lines as tin foil but not quite there. The layout of the dress is nice but with I think with this type of fabric, it looks nicest without texture. The way it wrinkles together isn't very flattering in my opinion.

Shakira in Carolina Herrera and Wes Gordon - I love the individual pieces of this gown but they work so well together. Wes did so well styling here but I think this could have been worn for a different occasion.

Simone Ashley in Prabal Gurung - She looks drop dead gorgeous in this dress. The patterns between the two fabrics been so nicely together. I love the criss cross across the torso. It is just so flattering on her.

Steven Yeun in Thom Browne - what a distinguished gentleman. He looks great! The faint pattern on the fabric is subtle but nice.

Sydney Sweeny in Miu Miu - there was so much potential here. A Cinderella-esque gown should not have been worn with arm length black gloves, let alone a black bob. I'm sorry but who approved of them doing her this dirty.

Taylor Russell in Loewe - I knew once I saw the video of Taylor's steel coat being taken off in front of Anna Wintour, she would be invited to the gala. And she proved exactly why she was invited. A wooden type of corset perfectly molded to her body? Yup.

Tessa Thompson in Chanel - I love Tessa as an actress and person. But what the hell is this?? I love the basket detail, but the fit and pattern are not a good combo at all.

Tory Burch in Alexander McQueen - everything about this dress is perfect. She looks amazing with an off the shoulder dress and the floral details are magnificent.

Tyla in Balmain - the sand dress. iconic. I just want to know how they made this. I saw a video of the bottom half of the dress being cut off after photos which definitely made maneuvering easier.

Usher in Alexander McQueen - he looks like the kiss of death. The hat, the cape, the black studded suit, black and red dripping roses made it whole. He killed it.

Zendaya Look 1 in Maison Margiela - Zendaya can do no wrong. But designers can. The only thing that makes me not die for this dress are the fabrics. It feels a bit cheugy to me. I'm sorry.

Zendaya Look 2 in Givenchy - this is what we came for. While I think she could still do better, I like this look much more. The different laters to the gown and bold headpiece are winners in my book.

Zoe Saldana in Chloé - effortlessly beautiful. The flow dress compliments her figure, but the shoes don't really complete it. The name of the brand across the dress is also not right for the occasion.
